If covering long distances on skis and gaining altitude in search of the perfect run back down is your passion or if you’d like to give it a go for the first time then ski touring/ski mountaineering  whilst staying at Chalet Savoie Faire in the beautiful Beaufortain is the activity and destination for you.

Ski touring and ski mountaineering are all about getting away from it all and being far from the ironmongery of ski resorts. The stunning scenery surrounding Chalet Savoie Faire is some of the most beautiful in the French Alps and will quite simply take your breath away. There’s no doubt that this is unspoilt nature at her best.

Backcountry skiing offers the opportunity to escape crowded pistes and to enjoy fresh tracks in pristine snow. Tours can often extend over more than one day and your hosts at Chalet Savoie Faire Nikki and Hugh can organise guides, routes and reservations in local refuges. If this is your first time sampling the energetic delights of ski touring then a suitable guide can be hired to teach you the skills involved as well as ensuring that they have the local knowledge to truly make the most of the surrounding terrain. Equipment can also be hired locally.

This is an energetic way of exploring the mountains and depending on your level the experience can only be enhanced by the lure of staying in mountain huts or returning to the warmth and luxury of Chalet Savoie Faire in the heart of the French Alps. This lovingly restored typical Savoyard barn is the perfect place to come back to after an exhilarating day’s ski touring in the stunning surrounding area. Relax in one of the amazing bathrooms and make the most of the luxury toiletries provided. Or we can arrange for a qualified masseur to come to the house and help you recover from the day’s exertions.

The versatility of Chalet Savoie Faire means you can explore all the local culinary delights yourselves or benefit from Nikki’s 23 years of living and cooking around France. Both Bed and Breakfast, and full-board options are available at the chalet. Evening meals must be booked in advance.

Want to try something completely different from the backcountry skiing? Why not have a cookery lesson with Nikki in the specially designed kitchen of the main house. Various options are available from Thai cooking to making the most of the wealth of local produce. Nikki also runs fabulous cookery courses for children.
